The drought group writing week 2024

Last week we had our IVM group writing week in the beautiful province of Drenthe in the Netherlands!

17 drought group members joined: Shahana Bilalova, Davide Cotti, Lars de Graaff, Anna Luisa Hemshorn de Sánchez, Jose David Henao Casas, Maurice Kalthof, Anne van Loon, Alessia Matano, Maurizio Mazzoleni, Hans de Moel, Rhoda Odongo, Anne-Sophie Sabino Siemons, Ileen Streefkerk, Charles Wamucii, Ruben Weesie, Marthe Wens, and Teun Schrieks (not on the photo).

There were many different writing setups (thanks to the amazing weather):

Before, in between and after all the productive writing, we went for a walk or a run in the forest / on the heath, went swimming in a natural lake, played many games (inside & outside), and had fun.

With such an international group and some great cutting skills, the home-cooked dinners were amazing!

And thanks to Hans, we even had an excursion to a pingo. Look them up if you’ve never heard of this cool landscape feature!

This is what we achieved:

We shaped a research question, selected relevant concepts, worked on paper ideas.

We did a literature review (2x) and drafted a paper from a PhD chapter (1x). We wrote the introduction (3x), methods (1x), and results sections (2x).

We provided co-author feedback on manuscripts (4x), discussed progress, main message, and structure (2x), addressed co-author comments (3x), and restructured a paper (2x).

We finalised a draft manuscript and send it to co-authors for feedback. We submitted two papers and re-submitted one paper.

We addressed reviewer comments. We prepared two conference presentations and worked on a project logo & website.
