We are proud of the IVM Drought Group’s participation in the Drought Resilience +10 conference!
The conference took place from September 30th to October 2nd at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) headquarters in Geneva. Organized by the WMO and the Global Water Partnership (GWP) as part of their Flood and Drought Management Programmes, this event brought together experts to discuss the future of global drought resilience.
Our team – comprising Anne-Sophie Sabino Siemons, Ileen Streefkerk, Marthe Wens, Ana Nunez Sanchez, Raed Hamed and Anne van Loon – was actively involved in key discussions and events throughout the conference.

Highlights of our team’s contributions:
Anne-Sophie Sabino Siemons had an important role in the plenary panel on drought and biodiversity, summarizing the recent research on this topic.
Ileen Streefkerk presented a poster on the results of the DOWN2EARTH project on drought risk assessment, impact forecasting and adaptation in East Africa.
Marthe Wens co-led a side event on the Global Drought Atlas that IVM, CIMA and UNCCD are preparing for the next UNCCD COP.

Ana Nunez Sanchez and Anne van Loon were part of a side-event on sharing examples of cross-country collaboration on drought management.
The posters that were presented at the conference:
It were an inspiring few days, especially to hear about the examples of advances in drought monitoring and management from around the world and voices about the importance of social inclusion. These ideas will be taken forward to make sure our research contributes to where it is most needed.
Luckily, there was also time left for some sightseeing…
