Davide is an external PhD Candidate in the Water and Climate Risk group of the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In his PhD, Davide will focus on the combination of systemic risk and complexity science to advance our understanding of drought risks. Focusing on Europe, his research will assess the current use of complexity in existing drought risk research, construct system-oriented conceptual models of drought risks, and explore the usefulness of complex and systemic research outputs in communicating and informing about drought risks. His work is partially supported by the EDORA project, funded by European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment (DG-ENV), and GreenAdapt2Extremes project, funded by the Water4All 2024 Joint Transnational Call.
Davide obtained a M.Sc. in Geography of Environmental Risk and Human Security from the University of Bonn, Germany, and the United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), with a thesis on multi-risk assessment in the Marrakech-Safi region of Morocco. He also holds a M.A. in Geography of territorial processes from the University of Bologna, Italy, with a thesis on remote sensing applications to assess the environmental degradation in IDPs camps, and a B.A. in Cultural sciences from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, with a thesis on environmental philosophy.
Davide currently works as Senior Research Associate at United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security, where he has worked on several projects on multi-risk assessment, systemic risk and drought risks in Europe, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and at the global level.
