Benedikt was a postdoc working in the Groundwater Drought Initiative (GDI) project. He started his academic path in Munich, Germany, doing a Bachelor in Environmental Engineering, followed by a Masters degree in Hydrology at the University of Freiburg, Germany. Recently, he finished his self-funded PhD project on groundwater dynamics during drought in Freiburg, before joining the Birmingham drought research group.

Benedikt’s main research interests orbit around (groundwater) drought, drought propagation and predictability of groundwater dynamics. His research in this area is based on a strong methodological foundation in time series analysis and multivariate statistics. With uniquely developed toolsets, he aims to improve spatial predictability of groundwater dynamics on a basic level. On an applied level, the goal is to understand differences in spatial and temporal development of groundwater drought.
